  • Mr Wing Mau Hui - Chairman and Executive Director, Shimao Property Holdings

    Winner of - The CPA Australia Alumni of the Year

    Hui Wing Mau, JP, is an alumnus of the University of South Australia, graduating with a Masters of Business Administration in 2003. He is currently Chairman and Executive Director of Shimao Property Holdings Ltd. and non-Executive Chairman of Shanghai Shimao Co. Ltd.

    Mr. Hui founded the Shimao Group in the 1980s, and focused on the development of high-end residential and business properties and luxury hotels. Today, Shimao Group controls two listed companies - Shimao Property (Hong Kong), and Shanghai Shimao (Shanghai). Shimao Group is now the leader in China’s real estate industry; their image is synonymous with quality and its projects showcase the achievements of China’s reform and economic development. Under Mr. Hui’s leadership, Shimao Group has not only changed the landscape of urban China, but also injected new vitality into urban living.

    Mr. Hui also sits on the National Committee of the Eleventh Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference. He also founded the Shanghai Chamber of Commerce, acting as President, and sits on Chinese government committees and Chinese business representative bodies, as well as speaking at the World Peace Congress in 2007.

    Apart from being a generous donor to charities, education and social welfare establishments, Mr. Hui has always been the first to react to any relief effort for natural disasters. His generous offers during the Sichuan Earthquake made him a stand-out philanthropist. His charitable work has won him many awards, including most recently, the Shanghai Magnolia Award of Honor. Through a trust fund under the Shimao Group, he also regularly provides scholarships to worthy students for studies.

  • Mr Stefan Hoffmann-Kuhnt - Vice-President and Regional Compliance Officer, Siemens Ltd

    Stefan Hoffmann-Kuhnt is an alumnus of Swinburne University of Technology, graduating with a Graduate Certificate of Business Administration in 1997. Stefan is currently the Vice President & Regional Compliance Officer, Siemens Ltd., China Regional Compliance Office.

    After he took over the position as Regional Compliance Officer for Siemens in China, the topics presented at the various conferences have focused on compliance relevant topics and other presentations introducing the success story of the Siemens Compliance Program, which brought Siemens from a compliance crisis in November 2007 to a recognized leader in compliance by today's standards, as recently confirmed by the Dow Jones Sustainability Index publication. In several of these conferences he also acted as Conference Chairperson.

    Since his arrival in China 5 years ago, Stefan has been very active as a member of the Rotary Club of Beijing. He was a Board Member for four consecutive years (until July 2009) and held responsibilities as Director of Community Services Committee, which was responsible for the various charitable initiatives of the Rotary Club of Beijing, including Sun Children's Village, Stars & Rain Autism School, Gubeikou Education Project, Gift of Life and working with disabled people in China.

  • Mr Vincent Lam - Founder and Chairman, Asiaray Group

    Vincent Lam is an alumnus of the University of Sydney and the University of New South Wales, graduating with a Bachelor of Science (Hons) majoring in Computer Science (Sydney) in 1983 and Master of Commerce majoring in Professional Accountancy (UNSW) in 1985 respectively. As a successful Australian-Chinese businessman, Lam is passionate about sharing his values of integrity, innovation, passion and the importance of education.

    Lam is the founder and chairman of the ASIARAY Group, the largest airport media operator in China covering over 30 key cities, including Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen and Guangzhou as well as Hong Kong. The group has over 300 professional staff with a strong financial track record. In 2008, the group recorded a remarkable revenue growth of nearly 200%, to a combined turnover of RMB605 million. His success in his field has earned him the title ‘The Top 10 most Influential Media Operator in China’ in 2009.

    Lam’s alumni and charity works are also wide-ranging. In 2005 Vincent initiated the China Alumni Network by the University of Sydney and was named Patron of this network. Lam is also a member of Yunnan Economic Development Committee and ‘Theme Year Committee Member’ of the Hong Kong Management Association. Influenced by his sponsored education in Australia, he founded the Lam Kwun King Memorial Fund, which has helped close to 1000 under privileged students with education and health needs since 2003.

  • Mr Kevin Wale - President and Managing Director, General Motors, China

    Kevin E. Wale is an alumnus of the University of Melbourne, graduating with a Bachelor of Commerce with Honours in 1975. Wale began his GM career with Holden, the automaker's Australian unit, in 1975, working in various roles within the company's finance department, working in the United States and Australia for several years before being appointed executive in charge of operations for GM Asia Pacific in September 1998. Based in Singapore, Wale was responsible for the general management of GM's operations across the region. In 2001, Wale was appointed Managing Director & Chairman of Vauxhall and also was a member of GM Europe Strategy Board.

    He was appointed president and managing director of the GM China Group, effective May 1, 2005. Based in Shanghai, Wale is responsible for the overall coordination of GM's extensive operations in mainland China, Taiwan, and Hong Kong, and has led the company’s enormous China expansion in the last few years.

  • Mr Wenfu Wang - President, Chinalco Overseas Holding Ltd.

    Mr Wang is an alumnus of Monash University, graduating with an MBA in 1995. Since then he has worked for Aluminum Corporation of China Ltd. (CHALCO). He is now General Manager of CHALCO Hong Kong and Australia, and has led a team to further develop CHALCO's globalization, including some of the largest foreign direct investments conducted by Chinese multinationals, including an A$3 billion investment in Australia and acquisition of 9% of Rio Tinto's shares. He has made great contributions towards the economic development of both Australia and China.

    Wenfu Wang has had 22 years experience in the mining industry, with international business development, cross border M&A, business network establishment and international trading expertise. During his career, he has been a key player and leading member for many investment and M&A projects across the border, in the mining industry especially between Australia and China.

  • Prof. Zihe Rao - President, Nankai University

    Finalist: The CPA Australia Alumni of the Year

    Professor Zihe Rao is an alumnus of the University of Melbourne, graduating with a PhD in Protein Crystallography in 1989. Since graduating, he has continued to maintain close links with Australia. In 2008, he was invited to deliver a special talk for the 50th anniversary of St. Vincent’s Institute in Melbourne. He currently serves as Patron of Melbourne University’s Beijing Alumni Association.

    Zihe Rao’s research is mainly focused on the structure, function and drug discovery of important human, disease- and virus-related proteins. His notable achievements to date include his important recent work on the discovery of two new major drug targets from the influenza virus polymerase that provide new avenues for the discovery of anti-influenza therapeutics. However, the main focus of his research following the 2003 global SARS outbreak has been the structure and function studies of SARS coronavirus (SARS-CoV) proteins.

    In his present capacity as President of Nankai University, Zihe Rao has established close links with a number of Australian universities, including Monash, Flinders and RMIT. He also renewed and built upon an existing relationship with Melbourne University, which took Nankai University as its first academic partner in China in 1984.

    In October 2009, Zihe Rao received the educateUK/CQI “Outstanding Academic Leadership” award at the World Hi-Tech Forum in London, for his role as President of Nankai University.

  • Ms Holly Li - Regional Head, North China, Adidas Greater China

    Finalist: The CPA Australia Alumni of the Year

    Holly Li is an alumna of the Macquarie Graduate School of Management, graduating with an MBA in 2003.

    Since her return to China that year, she has enjoyed strong achievements in her career with adidas. Holly was promoted from national retail development manager to a larger role as senior business development manager in 2004. In 2005, she was promoted again to be regional director, North China, in charge of North China overall operations, distribution management and business development. This made her one of the earliest promoted Chinese directors inside adidas and she was tasked with reaching major stretch goals in North China and building a successful "impossible is nothing" story for the Beijing 2008 Olympics.

    Under her leadership, adidas North China achieved dramatic annual revenue and profits growth and was awarded the "The Best Growth Region in Year 2007-2008" within the company. In 2008, adidas announced that it had achieved market leadership in China and the North China region was a major driver of this success.

    Meanwhile, Holly was rewarded as The Best Coach in adidas China for 2007 through an internal staff e-vote due to her effort in developing young managers. adidas North China also received the "China's Top employers (07-08)" Beijing area award by CRF.

    Between managing a multi-functional force for adidas North China and raising her young family with three kids, Holly still manages to find time to support the Macquarie Graduate School of Management’s China Study Visits, which started as an annual event in 2003.
