April Greetings!

ACAA 2017 Alumni Welcome Back Reception events in Guangzhou and Shanghai started off ACAA's 2017 Event Calendar with a  bang! Beijing's Reception was held on 31st March. The three events involved around 300 alumni from 25 Australian universities.  We warmly welcomed recently-returned alumni to join our community and were delighted to see them connect with other fellow alumni.

There will be more going on in the next few months- so stay tuned!

We are also keen to hear your thoughts and suggestions for the ACAA.

Alumni Profile

Mr. William Cheng
Victoria University Alumnus

William’s academic background is pretty interesting. He finished his Automotive Engineering Bachelor studies in China and completed his Masters degree (also in Automotive Engineering) in Belarus, (member state of the former Soviet Union). He started his connection with Australia in 2009 when he looked into moving their, although the timing was not yet right. Then in 2011 he chose Victoria University in Melbourne to pursue his MBA degree.

William’s career path is also diverse;  he started his first job as a university lecturer in Yunnan and then spent three years in Belarus as a Researcher and Project Manager for Hybrid Electric Vehicle at the National Academy of Science of Belarus. He then returned to China and joined Cummins as a Global Account Manager, working across the global commercial vehicle market including Australia. Five years later, he decided to take on a new challenge at Daimler as Head of Mercedes-Benz Powertrain China, responsible for their powertrain business in China including business development, marketing, technical and aftersales.

As part of his job, he’s also helping his Chinese customers export their vehicles to different countries with Australia as of their most important destinations. His target is to improve the reputation of Chinese vehicle brands in Australia.

William lives in Beijing with his happy family. He has a two-and-a-half year-old daughter and more exciting is that his second baby will soon be born!
