February Greetings!

Gong Xi Fa Cai! Kung Hai Fat Choy!

It's a bit of a quiet season as everyone enjoys their Chinese New Year holiday and reunion with family.

There are, however, many events coming up in March!

Welcome Back Receptions will be held in four cities this year: Bejing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Kunming. As we have planned some interesting activities to engage our alumni, there are limited seats to offer. Make sure you RSVP and save the date.

CQUniversity teams up with China Genebank

to help save koalas

CQUniversity will collaborate with the China National GeneBank (CNGB) to help save Australia’s national treasure, the koala.

This is CNGB’s first overseas research collaborative project in Australia, and the first time an Australian institution has studied the koala’s genome with an Asian institution.

China’s BGI-Research, a world-class genome research institution, and CNGB will work closely with CQUniversity’s research team on the study of koala evolution, the impact of global climate change on koala growth distribution and genetic polymorphism, and provide strategic and scientific guidance on management of koala extinction prevention, including migration, establishment of new habitat, and introducing new regulations.

CQUniversity’s Provost Professor Helen Huntly and Dr Guangyi Fan, Dean Director of Marine Omics Research Institute, CNGB, met late in 2017 to formalise the collaboration by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), highlighting their intent to conduct joint research into the effect of climate change on the ecological genomics of Australia’s koala populations.
