May Greetings!

With the arrival of pleasant weather in early summer, we are seeing more and more networking and engagement activities among our alumni community. We recently supported the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra’s tour in Guangzhou and Shenzhen, as well as La Trobe’s alumni events in Shanghai and Beijing. Additionally, our regular event, Happy Hour Drinks in Guangzhou, has become popular with the local alumni community.

Through the introduction of our Career Development Online Workshop Series in May, we were able to diversify our offering of career services to students on campus. Also, the ACAA Mentor Program kicked off smoothly with huge support from our senior alumni. To find out more about our Career Development Online Workshop and Mentor Program, please refer to ACAA News section.

In preparation for the 10th Australia China Alumni Awards starting early this year, we have more exciting news and activities coming up. Please stay tuned by following us on our media channels: WeChat, Weibo, LinkedIn.

2018 Career Development Online Workshops

The Australia China Alumni Association (ACAA) proudly announces its Career Development Online Workshop Series, where we invite local established alumni from a variety of industry sectors to join us and share their experiences with our soon-to-be alumni. Topics vary from the current status of the job market in China, to career paths in different industries, to key skills for success.

Featuring Mr. Leo Wang, CEO and Founder of Hello Career, the first workshop taps into China’s current job market for returnees and offers insights and suggestions for soon-to-be alumni to prepare themselves upon their return to China.

*Note: This workshop is only available to ACAA University Partner. For further details, please contact:

Mentor Program 2018

The 2018 ACAA Mentor Program started in early April. We received 40 mentor applications and 14 of those have now been appointed and published on our website. This year, mentors were selected to represent a cross-section of both industry and experience, with some being previous ACAA awards winners and finalists.

Mentee applications opened on 1st May and will close on 30th June. As our Chinese alumni may be unfamiliar with the mentorship concept, a lot of work has gone into educating both mentors and mentees regarding how the program works, and to manage their expectations.

CQUniversity Graduates Ahead

CQUniversity’s graduate outcomes are going from strength to strength in the Quality Indicators for Learning and Teaching (QILT) results, which are an important measure of student satisfaction and success across all Australian universities.

The median salary of CQUniversity postgraduates was AU$95 000 (compared with the national average of $80 000), and undergraduates earned $62 600 (compared to the national average of $58 000).

Undergraduate alumni were 10% more likely to be in full-time employment within four months of graduation; with 80.4% of CQUniversity graduates employed, versus the national average of 70.6%.

The Australian government funded QILT results were released mid-May, and provide a transparent snapshot of Australia’s higher education institutions from the perspective of recent students and graduates.

The pleasing results are a testament to the outstanding quality of CQUniversity graduates, some of which are highlighted on our alumni profile site. We encourage CQUniversity graduates to share their achievements by completing a profile form to inspire future and current students.
