When heat and cold cross the two hemispheres, it marks the start of a new semester in Australian universities, and means more students will join our alumni team. This month ACAA provided several events including, an ‘Immigration Workshop’, ‘Happy Hour Drinks’, and an online career development workshop which helped our alumni further develop their careers, build broader networks, and maintain connections with Australia. By providing diversified services, ACAA is dedicated to promoting Australia's largest people-to-people alumni network in China.

 

In other exciting news, nominations for the high-profile 2018 Australia China Alumni Awards close at MIDNIGHT TODAY! ACAA is pleased to see that a large number of alumni have joined us in celebrating the various achievements of China-based alumni of Australian universities.

Australia China Alumni Association & TOEFL®
2018 Australia China Alumni Awards

 

 

As the two-month nomination period is coming to a close, ACAA is excited to see many of our alumni actively getting involved in the Australia China Alumni Association & TOEFL® - 2018 Australia China Alumni Awards.

 

Over the past two months, we introduced all eight award categories in detail, and we are delighted to announce that TOEFL® has been confirmed as title sponsor, with the Australian Embassy, Austrade, KINGOLD and Millenia being individual sponsors. Immigration Workshop: Back to Australia

ACAA was excited to host our Career Development Workshop ‘Immigration Workshop: Back to Australia’ in Beijing, featuring ACT Group’s Deputy General Manager, Melody Zheng and Project Director, Kayla Li. We greatly appreciate our alumni’s active participation in the workshop, as well as the valuable information and updates provided by the two lecturers regarding Australian immigration policies.

Analysing Job Descriptions: Are You the Right Fit for the Job?

To help graduating students be more prepared when applying for jobs, ACAA invited Ms Wendy Wang, HR Director of TripAdvisor, to host the online career development workshop ‘Analysing Job Descriptions: Are you the right fit for the job?’. The workshop helped students analyse hidden information in job descriptions, address selection criteria in a cover letter and CV, and seize the best job opportunities for them.

Happy Hour Drinks Guangzhou

ACAA, AustCham, ACYA, and ACYPI were delighted to host the August Happy Hour Drinks in Guangzhou. It was fantastic to chill with our alumni and enjoy the summertime together. We were also glad to see more new faces get involved in our alumni team and broaden everyone’s network.

QUT Estalishes Teaching and Learning Collaboration
with Chinese Universities

 

 

The Global Partnerships for Academic Teaching Excellence program, led by QUT’s Professor Abby Cathcart, saw 10 Queensland universities work together to promote quality teaching and learning internationally. More than 180 academic staff from 49 separate Chinese Universities participated in three showcases of innovative university teaching practice, presented by award-winning academics from Queensland universities.


Following workshops in Hong Kong, Chengdu and Shanghai, Chinese academics were mentored by Queensland academics as they developed applications for HEA Fellowship and more than 55 have now achieved recognition. The program has created new communities of practice between Chinese and Queensland academics, and highlighted the benefits of HEA Fellowship in bench-marking teaching quality and rewarding those leading, delivering and supporting teaching.

 

The program was co-funded with the support of Queensland Government’s International Education and Training Partnership Fund, managed by the International Education and Training Unit within Trade and Investment Queensland.

CQUniversity Joins Railway Research in China
 
 

 

CQUniversity is joining with major international universities to launch a new joint laboratory for railway research in China.


The new lab will focus on high-speed, suburban and heavy haul rail, with the research influencing the development of rail technology around the world.


The International Joint Laboratory on Railway Engineering System Dynamics at the Southwest Jiaotong University (SWJTU), is an international initiative proposed by SWJTU, the top-ranked university for railway engineering discipline in China.


CQUniversity’s research will focus primarily on the heavy haul railway aspects of the joint laboratory, and will strengthen CQUniversity’s and SWJTU’s mutual development of rail research.


Other partners in the joint lab include the Polytechnic University of Milan, Italy and the Delft University of Technology, Netherlands.

In mid-August, the Beijing Alumni Chapter of Deakin University organised a winery tour. During the event, the alumni experienced the elegant, noble, and exquisite red wine culture, and enjoyed a great time together just as they did before graduation.
