Celebrating 30 Years!

Sydney-Guangzhou Sister City Relationship - Alumni Event

The ACAA invited alumni to attend Sydney’s six leading universities' alumni to celebrate the 30th Anniversary of the Sister City relationship between Sydney and Guangzhou. Distinguished guests included the Lord Mayor of Sydney, Clover Moore, the chairman of Kingold Group Dr Chau Chak Wing, the former Mayor of Guangzhou, Chen Jianhua and the Consul-General of Australia Guangzhou, Mr. Dominic Trindade.

More than 200 participants including Sydney area alumni and guests celebrated the success of this relationship between Sydney and Guangzhou. This relationship has provided multiple benefits to both parties in trade, cultural exchange, education, experience sharing of ecosystems and in architecture.

Australian alumni are perhaps the most important bridge connecting China and Australia to boost the industrial, economic and cultural progress in different aspects.

Here at the ACAA we endeavour to enhance such alumni engagement between Australia and China.

Happy 10K Run

Guangzhou 10K Happy Run on the 15th of May was a huge success. Some 70 alumni from 16 universities displayed their Aussie Sporting Spirit. All participants were able to find their fellow alumni through the washable university logo tattoos on their faces, necks and arms! The UNSW alumni team won the Biggest University Team Award and each of them received a special flower gift prepared by the ACAA.

The Happy 10K Run was organised by the Chinese Athletics Association and attracted more than 7,000 runners including professional athletes. The ACAA encouraged alumni to meet through different engagement activities. Alumni highly valued the professional running event and were able to interact with other alumni more effectively.

May Greetings

ACAA 五月祝语

Throughtout May, the ACAA has been very active, participating in a vast array of Australia & China related activities.

Some 70 ACAA alumni members represented 16 Australian Universities and showed their Aussie sports spirit at the 10K Happy Run on 15th May in Guangzhou.

The ACAA invited more than 200 alumni to celebrate the 30th Sydney - Guangzhou Sister City Anniversary with the Lord Mayor of Sydney Clover Moore and their alma mater on 31st May.

The ACAA continues to play a key role in China-based alumni engagement. As the Australia Global Alumni Strategy was launched, the ACAA has hand-picked alumni to attend workshops in Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou and encouraged alumni to express their thoughts and ideas.

To activate the knowledge and experience present in the alumni community, the ACAA will be encouraging alumni to provide and share their experiences in our Hot Topic section in ACAA Connect and will convert some of those topics into offline events in June and July.

The ACAA will soon be acting as co-host with RMIT University for an event dealing with cross-border real estate investment in Australia.

With almost 30 years of experience in the oil & gas industry and having worked most recently for Sinopec as a senior petroleum engineer, Mr Larry Li is now the CEO of his own company,  OPETECH, that provides international trade and technical consulting services within the offshore oil & gas sectors. During his career, he has also worked for other large corporations such as GS-Hydro and Halliburton, and thrives on providing high-tech products and services to his customers in China.

One of his major achievements was being elected as the President of the Beijing Energy Association's International Suppliers Branch which allowed him to be responsible for various consulting services for domestic and international energy suppliers and provided the opportunity to serve many different suppliers.

Larry earned his International Masters of Business Administration (IMBA) at Victoria University in 2013.
